A United Heart: Coming Home to God and Myself After Satanic Ritual Abuse
Author: Jenny Hewett | Publisher: Messenger Books
Whether we realize it or not, ritualistic abuse is very real. It has happened to more people than we will probably ever know. Author Jenny Hewett knows this firsthand, and she writes about it in her new book A United Heart.
The Fragmented Soul
Earlier in my life, I met a woman who had been ritualistically abused before birth and throughout childhood. Until then, I did not know such a thing existed outside of horror movies and novels. When she became an adult, she was able to tell part of her story. What she recounted completely astonished me, and not in a good way. I was tempted not to believe her because my mind could not conceive the things she had endured. Being around her was not easy because of the continual shift in her moods and behavior. I had no framework of experience to understand the frequent changes in her personality.
What I learned is that this type of abuse fragments a person’s soul. Also, it can cause dissociative behaviors. This includes multiple personalities. Dissociation is evidence of the victim’s defense mechanisms that helped them to survive. It is also evidence of the healing that is desperately needed.
Validation for Victims
More and more, survivors are beginning to emerge and tell their stories. Jenny Hewett is one of them. In her book A United Heart: Coming Home to God and Myself After Satanic Ritual Abuse, she tells portions of her story in a way that is sensitive and compassionate to the reader. Her purpose is not only to make us aware of the reality of this type of abuse and to validate the victims, but also to point us to God as our healer. No matter how impossible our situation may seem.
Although ritualistic abuse is the extreme, there are so many people carrying broken, wounded, and traumatized souls for many reasons. We see them every day. The growing number of people with diagnosed mental health issues is a testament to this.
Hope for Healing
The message of A United Heart offers the hope of healing to anyone with any degree of trauma and fragmentation of the heart and soul. It also shows us what a healed and restored life looks like.
Jenny Hewett’s story gives us confidence that God is fully capable of restoring us and loving us into wholeness – and more than that – He is willing! It is a testimony to God’s grace, love, faithfulness, and ability to heal the deeper, often hidden issues in our souls.
What an amazing journey. What an amazing God! After reading Jenny’s book, I think you’ll agree.
